The problem for me was that Snagit was using my NVIDIA graphics card. But FINALLY, I was able to resolve it this morning. I tried updating my video drivers, reinstalling my Codecs, I even upgraded to Windows 11 just to try and resolve this very frustrating problem. The Registry edit didn't help, downscaling my resolution to 1080p with no scaling didn't help. I was having this problem, and none of the documented fixes were working. Close the Registry Editor, and open Snagit. Right-click the AllowHwVideoEncoding item on the right and select Modify. Browse to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\TechSmith\Features\snagitĦ. Type the following and click OK: regeditĤ. Press Windows+R on your keyboard to open the Run window.ģ. Confirm that they are not running in Task Manager.Ģ. Then do the following:ġ) Press the windows key + R on your keyboard and type "regedit" and press enterĢ) Browse to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\TechSmith\SnagIt and delete the "SnagIt" folder.ģ) Try restarting Snagit and see what happens Go to Processes tab for any instances of the following:Ĭlick on them and click End Process to close the item. Since all presets will be deleted, right-click and export any custom profiles you will not want erased so you can import them again afterward:Īdditionally, check the Task Manager (ctrl+shift+esc). Reset your Snagit registry items and see if this helps. Hopefully this is helpful to anyone else. You can pause the recording and make adjustments as well.I contacted TechSmith Support and I was instructed to follow this. I don't think trimming off a bit of footage here and there is a big deal. But that's me. Or find a recorder that better suits your needs. That's just the way TechSmith captures screens. The recorder remained locked on a browser that wasn't there. While the countdown was progressing I jerked the browser over onto my secondary monitor a bit. See Image Below.I started recording a square area of this forum on my 2560 x 1440 monitor. I believe its because it freezes any action/motion on the screen when you start a capture?Ĭamtasia does the same thing during the 3 second countdown when you start a recording. You can actually grab and move the browser, but area under the countdown remains unchanged during the countdown.I just tested it. Other apps (like screen-cast-o-matic) DO offer a way to fit the browser window to the capture area. cto doesn't seem to have a problem starting with a fixed window/capture size.Ĭto want's to resize the Actual Browser under the capture Area/Window before starting the recording.īUT once you set the capture region does Snagit 2019 off ANY way to move/resize the window "under" the capture area? It seems to prevent any interaction with windows, which, if true, is kind of stupid. That's not what the poster is asking for Daniel. If you want to record only the client area (with or with the address bar, it's totally up to you) and your keyboard has a number pad. If you're okay with your browser's border and menu bar being included, then I would recommend Sizer. It sounds tricky but, with a little practice, you can get it lined up perfectly in seconds and can exclude elements such as the border and address bar if you wish, by tinkering with Mouse Keys. The workflow for that is you leave the mouse hovering over the edge of your browser window, so that the double-headed arrow appears, then use the "Start dragging cursor" keyboard shortcut to start holding your primary mouse button, without having to touch the mouse. In my case, to accurately line up the inside edge of my browser and capture only the client area, I temporarily enable a little-known utility in Windows called "Mouse Keys" and use the number pad arrow keys to nudge my mouse cursor, giving me a pixel-perfect selection. This causes the browser's border and address bar to be included in captures, when I only want to capture the client area (where the "action" happens.)Ĭropping a recording to remove these elements after the fact isn't a solution here, as you just end up with a smaller recording that the dimensions you were aiming for (i.e. I actually tried Sizer back in 2012 but didn't like the fact that it set the outside of my browser window to my chosen dimensions, rather than the inside edge of the border. I was trying to remember what the term was for that part of a browser window.
